Obituary of John Louis Giacofci

John L. Giacofci of Washington DC, Annapolis and Queenstown, MD and Hilton Head Island, SC died in his home in Port Royal Plantation. He was 101. John was born on January 25, 1923, in Washington DC to John and Lucia Giacofci.

Graduated from Eastern High School in 1941, then enlisted in the Navy during WW II as Chief Petty Officer, and model shipbuilder at Carterock, MD. Also at this time, he was a member of the American Racing Drivers Club; owning and competing in the Midget and Offenhouser Race Car Circuit.

He was an active member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis and a past grand knight for Council #1384 Knights of Columbus. He loved flying and piloted his own plane for 37 years for Kent Air Tool Co. as the East Coast Sales Manager. He also established a Wine & Liquor Mart in Severna Park, MD, and L&B Marine Supply, Inc. on Kent Island, MD.

Retiring in 1999 to Hilton Head Island, SC he enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and biking on the beach.

He was preceded in death by daughter Donna Giacofci. Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Stehle Giacofci. Daughters; Lucia Giacofci of Chester MD and Christine Giacofci Nakamura and husband Brian Nakamura of Newport, NC. Grandchildren; Andrew Nakamura, Claire Nakamura, and Danielle Stein.
