Coping with loss is different for everyone. Each person deals with grief in vastly different ways, but no matter how you grieve, you don’t need to feel alone. At The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, we have a variety of resources available for grief and bereavement support, which you can utilize at your own pace, at the right time.
Whether you have experienced a loss yourself or are trying to offer help to someone else, there are many resources available, locally, nationally and virtually. In the time following a death, people continue to need others to lean on for understanding, encouragement and guidance. The following are some of the resources available.
All Saints Episcopal Church
First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry
Bereavement support is offered to anyone who has experienced a loss.
Tidewater Hospice Bereavement Support Group
The Center for Loss & Life Transition offs a number of resources for grieving adults, teens and children, as well as for grief caregivers. Dr. Alan Wolfelt, the director of The Center for Loss & Transition has written numerous books on this subject. His books and other materials may be found on the center's online bookstore, and you can also peruse their guide to grief and mourning basics.
AARP has a Grief and Loss center on it's website, with a broad spectrum of resources.
The Alliance of Hope for Suicide Loss Survivors provides healing support for people coping with shock, excruciating grief and complex emotions that accompany the loss of a loved one to suicide. We hope that you will find resources here to help you deal with, and eventually heal from, what may well be the worst pain you will ever feel.
"TIME HAS PROVEN THAT IN CARING AND SHARING COMES HEALING" The words of TCF's Founder, Simon Stephens, resonate with those who have come to The Compassionate Friends hoping to find a purpose in a life that suddenly seems so empty. Whether your family has had a child die (at any age, from any cause) or you are trying to help those who have gone through this life altering experience, The Compassionate Friends exists to provide friendship, understanding, and hope to those going through the natural grieving process.
GRASP Grief Recovery After a Substance Passing
GRASP provides sources of help, compassion and - most of all - understanding for individuals and families who have had someone they love die as a result of substance use or addiction.
