Obituary of Kevin Thomas Weir

Kevin Thomas Weir

Kevin Weir, 70, recently of Hilton Head, South Carolina, died suddenly on

March 2, 2024.

Kevin was born in 1953 in Teaneck, New Jersey to William Weir and Edna Arn Weir.

Raised in Princeton, New Jersey and Waynesborough, Pennsylvania, Kevin had two older brothers and a younger sister. He graduated from Juniata College in 1976 and began his career in business and finance.

Kevin met Carol Monaghan in Philadelphia in 1984. They moved together to the Pittsburgh area in 1985 and fell in love with the small town of Sewickley where they would raise their four kids and remain for 38 years.

In 1985, Kevin started his own investment firm, Accuvest, Inc., the first of his numerous entrepreneurial and management successes. In 1990, he and a partner and longtime friend acquired and operated Framesi USA, eventually selling it in 1998 after developing a premier distribution network throughout the US, Canada, Central and South America. From there, he formed, grew, and operated a specialty printing company for ten years before joining Aitheras Aviation as Chief Operating Officer in 2010. Kevin developed a serious interest in the jet charter business, also working with Vee Neal Aviation in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for several years while continuing to build a network of contacts throughout the United States. Outside of work, Kevin made significant contributions to his community through multiple service-oriented positions: Deacon and co-chair of the Pastor Nominating Committee at Sewickley Presbyterian Church, Board Member of the Watson Institute, Project Leader – University of Pittsburgh, Katz School of Business, and Volunteer Assistant to the Sewickley Academy Golf Coach.

A devoted husband and father, family always came first to Kevin. Friends came next and those who knew Kevin as a friend will remember his big heart most of all. Kevin had a youthful smile and sparkling blue eyes. He charmed almost everyone he met, and lit up every room with his sharp wit and amazing storytelling. He loved to debate, and could do it with the best of them, on most any subject. He was an avid skier, sailor and golfer and loved nothing more than doing all of these things with Carol and his children. Family ski and golf trips, Sewickley Academy sporting events, visits to Zermatt, parents’ weekends on four college campuses and so much more – these were the highlights of Kevin’s world. He was the most generous host, and always seized an opportunity to bring together friends and family.

He loved Christmas, the color red, chocolate cake, Toasted Head Chardonnay and his dog Maisie.

Gone too soon, Kevin is survived by his wife Carol and their four children: Cameron (Mary McDermott), Kendall, Christopher (Hannah Saris) and Katharine and two grandchildren, Brooks and Lily, as well as his brother Michael and sister Elaine. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother David.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 6th at 11 am at Sewickley Presbyterian Church, 414 Grant Street, Sewickley, PA, followed by a reception at Allegheny Country Club. Family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kevin's memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) for cancer research.
