Obituary of Andrea Irwin Pejeau

Andrea Pejeau, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 67. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Born in Michigan on October 3, 1956, Andrea was the daughter of George and Diane Irwin. Raised by loving parents who fostered her creativity, Andrea embraced life's journey with open arms.

Andrea graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1978, where she fondly recalled her time spent abroad studying art in Florence and Greece. Upon graduation she embarked on a journey with her then-husband, Richard, that took them to St. Croix. There, she immersed herself in teaching art during the winters and found joy in being a summer camp counselor in Maine. Later, Andrea settled in Dallas, Texas, where she welcomed her first son, Charles, and taught Art History for six years at the Art Institute of Dallas.

Following her adventurous spirit, Andrea moved to Abingdon, VA, where she established a successful faux finishing business and welcomed her second son, Ted. In 1995, she relocated to Hilton Head Island with her sons. It was there she painted numerous commissioned works of kids playing on the beach, served as the Art Director at Self Family Art Center for 2 years, and finally dedicated herself to teaching art at Bluffton High School for the past 18 years.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Andrea cherished spending time with her family, riding her bike along the island's picturesque trails, and soaking in the beauty of the beach. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, finding joy in the simple moments she shared with her loved ones.

Andrea is survived by her mother, Diane Irwin of Hilton Head Island, SC; her identical twin sister, Kristen Dill; her brother, Bruce Irwin; her son Charles Pejeau and his wife Sarah; her son Ted Pejeau and his wife Lauren; and her five adoring grandchildren, Ryder, Angelina, Oliver, Elle, and Teddy.

A memorial service will be held for the family on March 3, 2024, followed by a service at Alexander’s (76 Queens Folly Road) at 1:30 pm, open to the public. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship in Andrea's honor for students at Bluffton High School, reflecting her passion for nurturing talent and fostering creativity.

Andrea's vibrant spirit, unwavering kindness, and profound impact on the lives she touched will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May she rest in eternal peace.
