Obituary of Paul Heller

Paul Heller of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away on December 17, 2023. He was 89.

Paul was born on July 28, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Henry and Mildred Heller. He moved to Mahwah, New Jersey in 1944.

Paul graduated from Pace University in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He married Joan (Mehaffey) in 1959, and settled in Sloatsburg, New York. They were lovingly married for 60 years until her death in 2019.

Paul worked as an account executive for Avon Products Inc. for 37 years until his retirement in 1994. Paul and Joan moved to Hilton Head Island in 2003, where Paul kindled his lifetime passion for golf. They were members of Port Royal Country Club, where Paul golfed daily and played for and oversaw Port Royal’s Interclub golf team, captaining the team to the Hilton Head Island club championship in 2012. Even after he stopped golfing, he remained involved as a captain of the team until his death.

Paul is survived by his children, Lorraine Jones and her husband Steven of Waterloo, New York, Nancy Northup, and her husband Richard of Huguenot, New York, Thomas Heller, and his wife Nancy of Mahwah, New Jersey, and Patricia Devine and her husband Timothy of East Northport, New York. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah, Chelsea, Emily, Christopher, Carly, Margaret, Henry, Timothy, and John, and great grandchildren Ashton and Cohen.  Paul was predeceased by his brother Lawrence.  

Paul will be interred at the columbarium at St. Francis by The Sea Catholic Church. A celebration of his life will take place at The Island funeral Home and Crematory on January 14, 2024 from 1:30 - 3:30pm.

The family would like to thank the many friends, drivers, and neighbors who so selflessly aided Paul, and allowed him to live his later years in his home as he wished.
