Obituary of Robert Ronald Greenwood

Robert Ronald Greenwood

January 20, 1932 - November 2, 2023

Robert Ronald (Bob) Greenwood age 91, of Hilton Head SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 2, 2023.  Bob was one of six boys and was born on January 20, 1932 to Marie and Walter Greenwood of Lafayette, IN.  Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Louise Greenwood.  He is survived by his two children, Cindy (Bill) Lewis of Statham, GA and Bob (Carla) Greenwood of Iowa City, IA and his five grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Bartoszek of Erlanger, KY, Dylan (Tabitha) Greenwood of Frankfort, KY , Sarah (Matt) Currie of Watkinsville, GA, Chris (Paige) Lewis of Aliso Viejo, CA and Liz (Marty) Griffin of Milton GA, and six great grandchildren and his beloved cat “Tom.”

Mr Greenwood was born and raised in Lafayette, IN and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1949.  He then went on to Purdue University and graduated in 1955.  After his graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Louise Keller in January 1955.  From there he was drafted into the Army and served two years in Fort Carson, Colorado Springs CO, where his daughter Cindy was born.

After leaving the Army, he attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy.  Bob then returned to Lafayette where his son Bobby Greenwood was born.

Shortly after Bobby’s birth, Robert moved the family to Middletown OH where he practiced Physical Therapy at Middletown Hospital and ultimately established his own PT practice for many years.  Middletown was a special place for Bob and Louise, where they made many lifetime friends playing golf, tennis, duplicate bridge, and took many weekend camping trips.  Bob was always active and giving himself to the community, playing Santa Claus every year at several Retirement Homes.  He inspired many patients to walk when they thought they couldn’t.  His positive attitude was contagious and he inspired many lives.  He was also active in Rotary and served as both a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Middletown, OH.

After his wife Louise passed away in 2004, Bob moved to his favorite place, Hilton Head, SC.  There he loved watching sunsets, riding his bike, listening to Gregg Russell at Harbourtown, playing golf, attending Providence Presbyterian Church and cruising around the island in his Ford Taurus (also known as the Red Sled).  In 2022, he left Hilton Head and moved to Athens, GA to be with Cindy and Bill, his daughter and son in law.  He lived independently until his death.

Bob will always be remembered for wearing his “Team gear” when cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals, Purdue, Miami University, and UGA.   He loved everything from Cincinnati…Graeters Ice Cream, Montgomery Inn Ribs (baked in sauce of course), White Castle and Skyline Chili.  He will be remembered for always making people laugh, and for making the holidays special. Our birthdays won’t be the same without Grandpa singing “Happy Birthday” on the phone. He loved to sing and now he is singing in Heaven!

Bob’s celebration of life will be Saturday, November 18th at 11:00AM at the Providence Presbyterian Church, 171 Cordillo Pkwy, Hilton Head, SC, 29928, followed by burial at the Six Oaks Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Providence Presbyterian Church in Bob’s name.
