Obituary of Nestor R. Villena, MD

Nestor R. Villena, M.D. (“Nes” and “Doc”) was a dedicated husband of 53 years to Cindy; loving father to Kim Villena (Joe Spain) and Kristine (Matt) McNally; and dear brother to Godofredo, Filemon, Lamberto, and Mary Ann. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He passed away on February 26, 2023, at 81 years of age. 

Born in Plaridel, Bulacan, Philippines, Nes received his M.D. from the University of Santo Thomas, Manila, Philippines. In 1966, Nes moved to Buffalo, NY to continue his medical training and ultimately established his internal medicine and nephrology private practice in Cincinnati, OH. Nes passionately cared for patients during his 43-year career. He was also heavily involved and held several executive level positions in Cincinnati’s Franciscan Health System and APPA, The Association of Philippine Physicians in America. Nes retired to Hilton Head Island in 2014 where he proudly volunteered at VIM (Volunteers in Medicine Clinic), perfected his golf game, and enjoyed visits from family and friends. In addition to his commitment to medicine and family, Nes will be known for his jovial spirit and smile.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 7, at 10 am at Hilton Head’s St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church and officiated by Father Max Tria, a beloved family friend who called Nes, “Dad.” Inurnment will follow.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Cincinnati, OH.   

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis by The Sea Regular Offertory or to the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic Hilton Head Island.
