"Grady Horton, my brother-in-law…I love that man. Is it because he was smart enough to marry my sister, his only equal in being so bigtime smart? Yes, but that’s not it. Is it because he and my sister moved to a beautiful home on Hilton Head Island and hosted Lisa, Mackenzie, Cliff and me and of course their kids and grandkids and all the parts of their family so many times? Yes, but that is not it either. Is it because he was generous with everyone around him? Yes, but again, that’s not it. Is it because he made people around him smile, even though he could on more than one occasion have a “grumpy” face on -- and, as Tracy so aptly puts it “we loved every minute of it.” Yes, but not that. Is it because he leaned in and took care of so many things when Joyce and my father passed away. Yes, for sure that is a great reason. I could go on with lots of positive memories about loving Grady, but at its core I loved Grady for being Grady and because, as Frank Sinatra would say, he did it his way – he worked very hard and then retired very early so he and Joyce could move to their beautiful Hilton Head Island home and for 29 years travel the world together (60+ countries), play bridge and golf, and graciously host family far and wide. I am so very sad to lose him, but so happy that he and my sister Joyce lived life to the fullest, a lesson Grady and Joyce have left for all of us." - Paul Tilley

It was a great pleasure to have known Grady over the years. Our annual golf outing in the fall of each year was an event we always looked forward to and Grady was one of the reasons. He could be counted on to keep the conversation lively on any subject and was the "unofficial" photographer who documented the golf and social activities for us all. Like the rest of us, his drives got shorter over the years and we were saddened when our group aged and eventually disbanded. Greg Mason and I enjoyed our last visit to Hilton Head and having the opportunity to visit with Joyce and Grady last November. We had no clue that was to be our last contact with him - he appear to be his usual outgoing self.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Joyce and the family. He will be truly missed.
