Obituary of Sandra Wolf Peterson

Sandra (Sandy) Wolf Peterson passed away in her Hilton Head home Thursday, February 3, 2022. She was born on July 17, 1942, in Nyack, NY, to parents Carolyn and John Wolf, and brother Richard (Dick) Wolf.

Sandy graduated from University of North Carolina in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration, where she met her future husband, David Peterson. She and David were married in 1965 soon after their graduation. After David served four years in the U.S. Navy, they lived in Medford Lakes, NJ, where David began his career as a computer systems engineer.

Early in their marriage of 56 years, Sandy and David made the decision that she would be a stay-at-home mother so she could devote her full attention to their children, April and Mark. After 20 years in New Jersey, they moved to Frederick, MD, in 1992 where David continued his career with Lockheed Martin. From there, in 2001, Sandy and David moved to Hilton Head, became members of St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church and she quickly became involved in the many activities Hilton Head offers.

In addition to David, Sandy is survived by daughter April and her husband Bryant Brigham, son Mark and his wife Jenna Peterson, four grandsons: Hunter, Koty, and Tyler Brigham, and Cory Peterson; sister-in-law Claudia who was more like a close sister.

Sandy’s greatest joy and pride was her family. To our great delight, both April and Mark were also able to move down to Hilton Head and lived near us with their families until Mark, Jenna and Cory moved to Carbondale, PA. Her years being a stay-at-home mom with our children, helped her to become a hands-on “Grandmom” for our grandsons: tutoring after school, attending baseball and basketball games, many school activities, and especially playing board games, an activity that was a favorite of both Grandmom and grandsons. When not with our grandsons, Sandy enjoyed bridge and tennis. She took great pleasure in teaching others how to play bridge and was the captain of several USTA tennis teams over the years. Though she was competitive at the bridge table and on the tennis court, win or lose she rejoiced in the game itself, regardless of the outcome. For special friends on special occasions, Sandy would present one of her unique and special poems to the delight of all present.

Sandy was always selfless, putting the needs and wishes of others before her own; she was completely devoted to David and her family, never expecting anything in return. An infectious smile, compassionate nature, and loving personality reflected a quiet strength that attracted a closeness with family and friends. She often said how blessed she felt living in a place that she loved, surrounded by people she loved, and being so close to our family, even those living out of state.

A celebration of Sandy’s life is planned for 12PM Saturday, February 12, 2022, followed by a reception in the Celebration Center at St. Andrew by the Sea UMC located at 20 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head, SC. Rev. Jim Morrison will be present to offer the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice Care of the Low Country , PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC, 29910.

Loved completely, sorely missed, Sandy will be forever in our memories.
