I just learned about Jim's passing today, but he was a great mentor and friend when I was transitioning from Law Enforcement to Technology. I could see the flow chart in his head when ordering lunch... burger AND fries OR sandwich AND fries. My wife used to clean their house and Nancy would have the latest John Grisham novel by her bedside. Jim's side had books on physics and astronomy. It's been 25 years and I still practice the old school disciplines he instilled in my youth. Rest in peace Jim.

Jim and I grew up in a farming town of 3500 in central Illinois. We were considered the "Nerds" of the high school class of '57 because we kind of didn't quite "fit the mold". We both played Clarinet in the town bandstand on Saturday nights in the square, played with radios and sound systems in my car. I remember how excited Jim was when transistors first came out! That meant we could play the radio in the car without running the battery down as much as the old tube radios did. We even experimented with Short Wave radios back then. We were like two "peas in a pod" thru the first semester at the University of Illinois. Then we drifted apart until many years later he found me through e-mail.
I have some good memories of us growing up, gonna miss ya' ole' buddy!

A fellow ham radio operator, Jim was one of the friendliest people I have ever met. He was a very knowledgeable technician and
he will be missed by all of our fellow ham radio club members. Bill Hinds, Hilton Head
