Obituary of Sally N. Campanella

Sally Noring Campanella passed away peacefully on May 19, 2023, surrounded by family at the Broadcreek Care Center of the TidePointe Retirement Community on Hilton Head Island, SC, where she resided several years.

She is predeceased by her parents, Gunnar and Edith Noring, her husband, Anton J. Campanella, and her daughter Christine and will be buried with Anton and Christine at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Montclair, NJ. She is survived by her three sons - Joel (Ann), Bruce (Kitty) and Brian as well as five grandchildren – Parker, Aaron, Sydney, Jillian, and Payne, and one great granddaughter, Annie.

Sally was born on September 11, 1933 in Irvington, NJ, where she lived until going to college at Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, on an academic scholarship majoring in mathematics. She met Anton at Upsala while participating in Choir, and they married in 1956. Sally worked at Bell Labs and taught math at Summit High School in Summit, NJ, supporting Anton during his final year of college, before starting a family. When her children were young, she taught Sunday school and was a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, NJ. After her children were grown, she returned to the working world part-time as a tax accountant. She enjoyed golfing with her family and was active in various couples‘ golf groups and ladies’ golf associations wherever she and Anton lived. A staunch observer of the rules, she served as ladies’ handicap chairman for multiple clubs.

The family would like to thank the staff at Broadcreek for their wonderful care and concern for Sally over the last few years and the hospice workers for their kindness and care in the last weeks of her life. A private service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC, First Presbyterian Church Hilton Head Island, or Hospice Care of the Low Country.
