Obituary of Lynette Sanders Flathmann

 

Lynette S. (Mrs. George W.) Flathmann, of Hilton Head Island, entered into Eternal Life on Tuesday, January 4th, 2023. Lynette was born in Metter, GA on October 15th, 1946 to Mr. and Mrs. Paul T. Sanders, Sr. The family moved to Savannah, GA in 1950. She attended Eli Whitney Elementary, Chatham Junior High School and Savannah High School. She met George in 1970 and they married on January 30th, 1971. They would have celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary this month. She is pre-deceased by her parents and her step-daughter, Myrtalee Sustache. She is survived by George, daughters Julia Cardozo of Hilton Head Island and Amanda Childress of  Lawrenceville, GA, sons Ronnie P. Dixon of Hilton Head Island, Roger S. Dixon (Elizabeth) of Charleston, SC, Alex J. Flathmann of Pawtucket, RI, step-son George W. Flathmann, Jr. (Sheila) of Brooklet, GA, and a very special niece, Amanda J. Glover (Scott) of Augusta, GA. She is, also, survived by her sister, Peggy McAlister of Savannah, GA and her brother, Paul Thomas Sanders, Jr., Port Wentworth, GA and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved unconditionally. In addition, she is the proud Grandmother to Isabella Cardozo of Hilton Head Island, Haley, Sydney, Isabelle, Peyton and Benjamin of the Dixon Family in Charleston, Megan and Mariah Sustache of Jacksonville, FL, Alex, Austin and Ava of Lawrenceville, GA and niece Scarlett and nephew Kaleb of Augusta. She is the proud Great-Grandmother to Dominic, Roman and Mia of Jacksonville, FL.

Lynette and George moved to Hilton Head Island in 1974 and built their home in Palmetto Dunes. Lynette’s career began with Elliott’s Drugs in Savannah (then in Hilton Head Island), the Hilton Head Fire Department (accounting), Hostessing at the outstanding Gaslight Restaurant, teller at Banker’s Trust and then Office Manager for the Kermit Huggins Residential Design firm for 30 years.

“We loved her and she gave us all that she had.”

Visitation will be Friday, January 13th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Island Funeral Home. Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 14th, 2:00 PM at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA with the Reverend Peter Hartmann of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church conducting the service.
