Obituary of JoAnn R. Howard

JoAnn R. (Brown) Howard, 90, beloved wife of the late Roger E. Howard of Hilton Head, SC passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2022, at NHC Bluffton.

JoAnn was born on August 22, 1932, in Johnstown, PA, the only daughter of Joseph and Ann Brown. After graduating from Catholic High, she married Roger Howard, whose career as a power/manufacturing executive took them to many places, including a two-year assignment in England. In 1988, they settled in Hilton Head, SC, where JoAnn was an active member of Holy Family Parish. She served there as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and founder of the Religious Articles Shop.

JoAnn loved living near the beach and rarely missed watching a sunset. She adored her grandchildren, often taking them to the Harbortown Pool, or to feed the turtles at Turtle Lane.  She also loved birds, especially cardinals, and enjoyed watching them at her bird feeders while having her morning coffee.

She is survived by her children: Beverly (Michael) Harostock of Shavertown, PA; Barbara (James) Noblett of Liberty Hill, TX; Roger (Patricia) Howard of Bluffton, SC; Beth Anne (Monte) Deyo of Phoenixville, PA; Bridget (William) Moore of Hilton Head; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy; her brother, Daniel; and grandson, Monte Deyo Jr.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Rd., Hilton Head, on Monday, November 7, at 10:00 A.M.  Inurnment will follow the Mass at the St. Francis Columbarium.
