Obituary of Carole Jean Crankshaw

Carole J. Crankshaw died on June 23rd, 2022 on Hilton Head Island, SC. She was 78 years old.

Carole was born on December 4th, 1943 in Buffalo, NY. One-and-a-half years later, Carole was adopted by Paul and Mildred Gassmann. Carole attended Secretarial School and later worked as an Executive Secretary.

In her younger years, Carole enjoyed staying active. She loved going to the beach, playing tennis, golfing, and riding her bike. She was a collector of all things “Westie”. She loved reading and could often be found out in the sun, paperback in hand.

In 1978, Carole married the love of her life, John. In 1994, they moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where she worked at the Sea Pines Country Club. She was a proud member of the EZ Riders Bicycle Club and the Chain Gang.

Carole is survived by her daughter Betty and son-in-law Dennis; daughter-in-law Marion, sister-in-law Ginger, and brother-in-law Frank; her grandchildren John, Amy, Dennis and Michelle, Jennifer and Jamie, Ryan and Mallory, and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband John and son John.

A ceremony will be held for Carole on Monday, August 22nd, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery, found at 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, South Carolina. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carole’s life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
