Obituary of Dottie Snell

Dorothy Mertz Tindle Snell, 97, passed away May 13, 2022 at the Broad Creek Care Center in Hilton Head. The care to the Snell family at BCCC over 9 years is greatly appreciated.

Dottie was born December 13, 1924, in Reading, PA. Her parents were Thomas and Susan Tindle. Dottie was raised in Reading, PA, and worked at the Reading Hospital through the WWII years. She married George R. Snell, her Sunday school teacher, in 1949 and they enjoyed 68 happy married years until George passed in 2018.

Dottie and George worked together in the early years at Green Hills Theatre in Reading, where George directed the stage productions and Dottie ran the front of the house. They moved to Pittsburgh where George worked in the early years of television as a director. After moving back east, they started a business to design and build spotlights, AV systems, and projectors for theaters, arenas, and boardrooms. They retired in 2001 and moved to Tidepointe in Hilton Head where they enjoyed 18 years together.

Dottie is survived by her beloved daughter, Suzi Snell Reed and beloved son-in-law Tom Reed of Hilton Head. She and Suzi held a special bond of friendship, trust, and love--one that gave Dottie strength and support as her years progressed. She was bright, funny, lovely, a clothes horse, a great conversationalist, and kind to animals of all kinds, especially the precious puppies who lucked out and lived in her home.

Dottie will be buried alongside her George at Beaufort National Cemetery on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Puppies Behind Bars, 263 W 38th St, 4th Floor, New York, New York 10018, in her memory.
