Obituary of Doris Ann Burger Hansen

Doris Ann Burger Hansen, age 97, a resident of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Manitowoc, WI, passed away January 23, 2022.

Doris was born May 13, 1924 in Manitowoc, WI to the late George M. and Erna J. Burger.  She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1942.  Doris attended Lindenwood College in St. Louis, MO and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

On February 12, 1949 she married Gerald P. “Jerry” Hansen in Manitowoc.  He preceded her in death, October 21, 2005. 

Doris was a long time member of First Lutheran Church, the Junior Service League of Manitowoc and the PEO sisterhood. 

Doris took great pride in her family, home and heritage.  She especially enjoyed exploring the Burger family genealogy, contributing to the Burger Boat exhibit at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, spending time with friends and family in Door County and traveling the world with Jerry.  

Survivors include Doris’s children:  Peter (Diane) M. Hansen, DDS, Francis Creek, WI and Naples, FL, and Debra “Debbie” (Robert “Ty”) H. Cook, Hilton Head Island, SC; grandchildren:  Jonathan (Lauren) P. Hansen, Katherine J. Hansen both of Milwaukee, WI, Michael R. Hansen, Burnsville, MN, Robert Tayloe Cook III and Andrew (Addison) B. Cook, Hilton Head Island, SC; great grandchildren: Harris H. and Alden W. Cook.  Doris is further survived by her sister Marjorie Burger Gunnell, FL.
