Obituary of Doris J. Foster

Doris Foster, 95, of Hilton Head Island, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2021, at Fraser Health Center.

She was born to the late George and Ruby (Salter) James, July 20, 1926, in Arkansas City, AR. In 1944, Doris graduated from Car Central High School in Vicksburg, MS, and attended the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR where she ran track and majored in English.

Doris is survived by her sister, Annie Sue (James) Painter of Newport News, VA, and four children: Sherrea Steen Chadwin (Steven), of Conshohocken, PA; Robert Short, Jr. (Jennifer Drabek), of Waynesville, NC; Maura Short DeReuil (Roby), of Palm Beach Shores, FL, and David Short (Maria), of Milledgeville, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Philip (Bud) Foster in 2005.

A resident of her beloved Hilton Head Island for 37 years, Doris, affectionately known as Bego to family and close friends, enjoyed traveling the world. She was a lover of sunflowers, an avid golfer, a passionate bridge player, and a wicked Scrabble competitor. She enjoyed a multi-decade career as a paralegal with Ferrene and Associates, P.A. Bego adored her family and leaves behind happy, beautiful memories. Every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild was affectionately greeted with a huge hug and “I love you dahlin’!” Each was made to feel the most special in her eyes.

A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held on December 20, 2021, from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM, at The Seabrook, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made in support of The Seabrook Foundation Fund, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
