Donnie was a close friend of my youngest brother, Bill, He was an amazing athlete… An excellent quarterback and basketball star. We once teamed together to win a Member-Guest golf tournament ar Goose Creek Country Club in Leesburg. He was a delight to be with with … a positive attitude …a natural salesman. Never at a loss for words! Not too many like him. Harry Shendow

Dear David, Michael, and Susan:
I just saw your Dad's Obituary and wanted to tell you how sad the news was. As kids growing up, I always liked and respected your Dad. He always seemed to be smiling, even if we were misbehaving, which was often. So please accept my deepest condolences.
Prayers to you all, Your old friend,
Kenneth E. Williams

Dear David, Michael, and Susan:
Emily and I are so very sorry about the passing of your Dad. He was a remarkable man and a dear, precious friend.
We grew up together and were the very best of friends, teammates, and inseparable as we grew up on the East end of town (the wrong side of the tracks).
Without a doubt, your dad was one of the greatest athletes in the history of Handley High School and this community. He was unbelievable really, and there was no sport he couldn’t excel in.
I think it’s wonderful you’re hosting the reception at the Country Club on Tuesday, October 12. All of his friends will be able to reminisce and offer some toasts in memory of a one of a kind guy.
Your Dad had deep convictions, and goodness knows we disagreed on so many issues, but we never let that get in the way of our love and friendship for each other and the recognition of the deep roots we shared from our childhood.
One of your Dad’s enduring great traits was loyalty. He was a loyal friend and he was truly that friend you could call on anytime.
Please don’t be sad at his passing. He lived his life the way he wanted to, not the way someone else wanted him to.
We have you in our thoughts and prayers, and for sure we know your Dad is up there with the Angels, challenging them on their opinions and, of course, challenging them to a home run hitting contest, a race, or a game of pool.
Love and God bless.
Your friends always,
Russ and Emily

David, Mike & Susan-
So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was TRUELY "One of a Kind" ! Probably the most gifted athlete to ever
come out of the Shenandoah Valley/Winchester Va area! AND, a great person, whom I looked forward for my yearly phone
call from him. When he missed last year I knew something was amiss as he never forgot my call! I truely looked forward to
it just because it was Donnie Oats!
RIP MY FRIEND>
