Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Hickey
Your Hug Meant the World, by Tamsen Butler
Nobody else held me so tight
Or made me feel so right
No one’s eyes shined so bright with love
As my mom, who is high above.
Elizabeth “Betty” Hickey loving mother, wife, sister, and friend to so many, passed away and found peace, July 28, after battling Alzheimer’s. Born in Flushing Queens on August 4th, 1945, daughter to the late Janet and William O’Brien; she was the second oldest of seven and proudly helped her mother care for her siblings whom she adored. She pursued a career as a nurse, a natural fit for her very caring and empathetic attributes. Elizabeth met and fell in love with her husband of 49 years, Raymond, early in her career and they married July 15th, 1972. Together they built the family that was her pride and joy, with three children: Michael, Meaghan, and Tricia. Although the New Yorker in her never left, she fell in love with the tiny town of East Granby where she forged life-long friendships and became very involved in the community. She juggled her career around the needs of her children, never missing a single school or athletic event. Elizabeth loved a house packed with family and laughter, hosting countless gatherings. She was a woman whose happy place wasn’t a location at all….it’s just being with her family. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Raymond; son Michael and wife Suzanne; daughter Meaghan; daughter Tricia and partner Matt; her six grandchildren whom she adored: Mackenzie, Avery, Charlie, Noah, Liam, and Mabel; and a large extended family who were all so very close to her heart.
A memorial service is planned for September 18, 10 am; Saint Gabriel Church, 379 Broad Street, Windsor Connecticut.
