What a kind caring humanitarian. I saw George first in 1978 at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. When my condition worsened he sent me to see his colleges in other states. He truly cared about his patients. Even though 30+ years passed since I last saw him I often asked his colleges about him. I sent him some e-nails. “Road Runner” was so much more than a skilled surgeon. He was compassionate and true, qualities we see less of these days. Hugs to Barbara snd his family.

George was a loving friend and neighbor who always had a warm smile and a kind word. He was adored by our family and an amazing person.
We were blessed to have him in our lives and he left a wonderful family.
We love you George.

George was always my mentor. He was kind to his patients and once went out into the parking lot to use his jumper cables to help a patient get his car started during a crazy busy clinic. He was the kind of doctor that I wanted to be. I am so very sad at his loss. My love to his family.

George Blankenship was one of my teachers during my residency training in Miami. He awed me with his high energy, his drive to care for patients, his desire to be as efficient as possible. I learned a lot about retinal diseases and surgery from him but I also learned a lot about how to deal with situations, with patients and with bureaucrats. After I went into practice he always had a kind word for me. George was one of a kind and stories about some of his encounters will live forever. I pray for his family during this difficult time.
