Richard Arnold Martenson

Richard A. Martenson, 73, died February 6, 2020 at home on Hilton Head Island with his wife Nancy by his side.  Born in Brooklyn, NY and later moving to New Jersey, Rich graduated from Belleville High School, Drake College of Business and then went on to graduate cum laude from Bloomfield College, NJ.


He was always very proud of the fact that he was an Eagle Scout.


He married Nancy M. Aumann in 1973.  They celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage and was the father of 2 children and “Pop” to 2 grandsons with a third grandson due later this year.


Rich enjoyed living in Little Falls, NJ for over 35 years.  Having spent many happy vacations on Hilton Head Island, SC the couple retired there in 2011.  He also had a great love of traveling, cruising and the company of many friends.


Rich started his accounting career at The Lummus Company, Bloomfield, NJ in 1967. He stayed with that company, through many changes, for 44 years. Two of those years were spent in Basrah, Iraq.  Rich retired in 2011 as Director of Finance and Accounting. 

Rich had many fond memories of working at the pool within Hilton Head Plantation where he made many friends and was beloved by all who knew him.


He was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Evelyn Martenson, and a sister, Arlene.  He will be missed by his wife, Nancy; children, Andrea Martenson and her husband Joseph Bailey II, son Joseph Martenson and his wife Mandi Martenson; grandsons Joseph Bailey and Alexander Martenson.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 28 at 11:00 am at Spring Lake Pavilion in Hilton Head Plantation.


In lieu of flowers the family asks the donations be made to either Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Hope House, 302 Hibben St., Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464 or Hilton Head Humane Association, PO Box 21790, Hilton Head, SC, 29925.
