Obituary of Dorothy Helen Schroepfer

Dorothy Helen Schroepfer of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away from a heart attack on August 5, 2018. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on February 1, 1934, to her parents Louis and Dorothy Miller. She studied education at Taylor University and was crowned Homecoming Queen. Later she received a masters’ degree in education from Connecticut State University. She worked as a teacher and her favorite job was helping manage the Education of Homeless Children and Youth program in New Hampshire. Dorothy and her family lived in Marblehead, MA, Meriden, CT and Hancock, NH. Dorothy spent her later years of life in Beaufort County, SC, most recently at TidePointe Retirement Community. Dorothy was a faithful follower of Jesus and actively participated in church her entire life. Her zest for life and spunk were evidenced with her many activities including visiting her family wherever they were in the world, spending time with and serving her friends, playing cards, birding, dancing, and arranging flowers. Dorothy is predeceased by her sister Jackie Rector. She is survived by her son Todd Schroepfer (his wife Melanie) of Charlotte, NC, and her daughter Nancy Hamalian (her husband Paul) of Decatur, GA; grandchildren Danielle Chapman (her husband Bryan), Lauren Schroepfer, Jacob Hamalian (his wife Hannah), Elizabeth Alvarez (her husband Eden), and Madeline Hamalian; and great grandchild Addison Chapman. Dorothy’s family and friends can attest to the legacy she leaves behind: kindness, generosity and faith in Jesus. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be 3pm, Thursday Aug. 9 at TidePointe Retirement Community, Hilton Head, SC.
