Obituary of Robert Lloyd Steinmeyer

Robert Lloyd Steinmeyer Hilton Head Island, SC – Robert “Bobby” Lloyd Steinmeyer, age 71, entered the Kingdom of God on Friday, October 6, 2017 at MUSC, Ashley Tower in Charleston, SC, after complications from post-operative heart surgery. Mr. Steinmeyer is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Steinmeyer of Hilton Head Island; his mother, Johanna Cerutti Steinmeyer of Hilton Head Island; daughters, Tracy Steinmeyer of Bluffton, Lori Turkvent (Wilbur Boston) of Columbia, and Carol Critney of Missouri; three siblings, James “Jimmy” (Jackie) Steinmeyer of Columbia, Mary (Mike) Peters of Hilton Head Island, William “Tony” (Gwen) Steinmeyer of Lake Wateree (Ridgeway). He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Michael Waites, Christopher Waites, Savannah Waites, Ethan Waites, all of Pomaria; his beloved, dog, Max, a special friend of the family, Allen Lindler; and nieces and nephews, Eric Peters, Valerie Steinmeyer, Gabrielle Steinmeyer, Tommy Sterling, Caitlin Sterling and Sonia Trimnal. He was born November 5, 1945, in Norfolk, Va. as the eldest son of Johanna Cerutti Steinmeyer and the late Lloyd Raymond Steinmeyer. Bobby is a veteran of the Vietnam War, as a Navy Corpsman, where he earned several medals. He served in the Air National Guard and retired from the Department of Mental Health in Columbia, where he worked for over 30 years. After retiring from the state, he and his wife moved to Hilton Head Island where they attended Hilton Head Presbyterian Church. He was a member of St. Andrews Church, Columbia, where he served as a Deacon and choir member; was a past member of Newberry ARP Church where he served as an Elder and choir member. He loved acting, singing in the choir, and reading scriptures aloud. He grew up in a strong military family. Bobby, and his father, both, served and retired from the military and the state, his mother served in the military and retired from the state, and his brother, Jimmy, also served in the military, during the Vietnam War, and the reserves. Bobby had a very entertaining attitude towards life and was full of energy. Besides his family, he enjoyed walking on the beach, meeting people & hearing their life stories, live music (which he loved participating in), theatre & film (which he has portrayed several roles in some smalls), comedy (especially when he was the entertainer), and life in general. He had a bubbling personality that he will surely be missed by all who ever knew him. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Hilton Head Presbyterian Church, 235 William Hilton Parkway 29926, Hilton Head, SC with the Rev. Bill McCutchen officiating. The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of one’s choice.
