Wendy Davidson

Obituary of Wendy Davidson

Wendy Margaret Davidson (nee Hood) who has died at the age of 91 at Life Care, Hilton Head, was born and brought up in London and Kent in the south of England. She was an only child and her upbringing was marked in her early teens by the outbreak of the Second World War, resulting in the interruption of her formal education and her evacuation to Devon with her mother in 1939. After the war, she worked happily near Sevenoaks in Kent as a medical secretary before marrying her husband John Burnett Davidson, a young veterinary surgeon from Yorkshire who later worked for Merck and Co. Having brought up their two sons in England, Wendy and John moved to the United States in the early 1970’s following John’s appointment as Head of Marketing at Merck’s headquarters in Rahway, New Jersey. They subsequently lived in Belgium and South Africa before settling in South Carolina in 1999 and spending many happy and restful years in Hilton Head. During her long life, and despite frequent bouts of ill health, Wendy enjoyed worldwide travel and developed a deep love of the Arts, especially dance and musical theatre, taking every opportunity to see new productions, whether in London’s West End, on Broadway, or in the peaceful surroundings of Hilton Head. She will be much missed by her two sons, Duncan, who resides in Ireland, and Michael who lives and works in Washington D.C. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John Burnett Davidson (12th September, 2014). There will be a short memorial service at The Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head at 11 am on Friday, 8th December. Donations may be made to NAMI Lowcountry, PO Box 24128, Hilton Head Island, SC, 29925. islandfuneralhome.com.
