Obituary of David S. Murphy

February 29, 1924 – February 26, 2018. David S. Murphy died at home from pneumonia on February 26. His genial nature and abiding curiosity brought delight to all who crossed his path. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Dorothy Murphy, and his daughters Lynne and Janet. David Murphy earned his B.A. from Illinois College, and after decades of corporate and volunteer leadership, retired as an officer from Allstate Insurance Company. Prior to his retirement, he and Dorothy lived in Tokyo for five years as a part of his executive service. Here he took pleasure in learning Japanese and collecting Asian art and artifacts. Dave had a creative knack for engineering and invention, enjoyed fine woodworking, loved boating, and watching wildlife. He was an avid patron of the performing arts. He became a fine cook and planned gourmet outings with family and friends. Dave always had time to listen deeply. He will be missed for his humor and warmth.
