Deborah Prewitt

Obituary of Deborah Prewitt

Deborah Prewitt, age 61, died suddenly on March 15, 2018. Debbie was the daughter of Pro Vance Prewitt, Jr. and Susanne Munsell Prewitt. She grew up in New Jersey, graduated from Mountain Lakes High School (member of Honor Society), earned a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of South Carolina (member of Kappa Kappa Gamma), and worked as an accountant for the firm of Arthur Young. Debbie liked to bake for friends and family. Her apple pies were famous when she was in high school. Her multi-layer banana cake was a family tradition that she carried forward from her grandfather, Dr. Pro Vance Prewitt, Sr. She had a passion for writing prose and poetry. In her twenties, as she reflected on her upbringing, she wrote “This was the place where we lived so well, had our fun and raised our hell.” She contributed articles to the Island Packet newspaper. A large portion of her writings remain for us to now experience. She loved animals, especially her pets. She was a long-time contributor to the SPCA and wildlife charities. She was bright, athletic, attractive, and fiercely independent. Debbie was predeceased by her beloved father, Pro Vance Prewitt, Jr.; by her good horse Pride; and by her good cat, Rebel. She is survived by her supremely supportive mother, Susanne Munsell Prewitt; by three brothers, Vance, Michael, and Turner; and by her extended family. Her burial service was private at Six Oaks Cemetery on Hilton Head on April 16, 2018 and was beautifully conducted by Rev. Greg Kronz of St. Luke’s Church. Arrangements by The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. islandfuneralhome.com Walk with Jesus, Debbie.
